Above is a comprehensive list of research & clinical trials conducted to date.

Details of each study, including focus, study subjects, dosage, date & results or findings

Paper #01 - An investigation into the stress-relieving and pharmacological actions of an ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) extract

Summary: In stressed, healthy adults, ashwagandha was found to have stress-relieving effects on participants compared to placebo.

Publication Date: 13 September 2019

Focus: Stress Relief

Study Subjects: 60 stressed but healthy adults

Dosage: Either a placebo or 240 mg of a standardized ashwagandha extract (Shoden) once daily for 60 days

Results/Findings: All participants completed the trial with no adverse events reported with a statistically significant reduction in the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) for those who had been supplemented with ashwagandha compared to placebo. Ashwagandha intake was also associated with greater reductions in morning cortisol compared to placebo.

Paper #02 - Clinical evaluation of the pharmacological impact of ashwagandha root extract on sleep in healthy volunteers and insomnia patients: A double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled study

Summary: The present study confirms that Ashwagandha root extract can improve sleep quality and can help in managing insomnia. Ashwagandha root extract was well tolerated by all the participants irrespective of their health condition and age.

Publication Date: 10 January 2021

Focus: Sleep Inducing Effects

Study Subjects: 80 eligible participants, 40 in Arm-A (healthy) and 40 in Arm-B (insomnia) were assigned to two groups, either Ashwagandha or placebo and studied for 8-weeks.

Dosage: Not specified

Results/Findings: In both healthy and insomnia subjects, there was a significant improvement in the sleep parameters in the Ashwagandha root extract supplemented group. The improvement was found more significant in insomnia subjects than healthy subjects.

Paper #03 - Efficacy and Safety of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal) Root Extract in Improving Memory and Cognitive Functions

Summary: After eight weeks of study, the ashwagandha treatment group demonstrated significant improvements compared with the placebo group in both immediate and general memory. The treatment group also demonstrated significantly greater improvement in executive function, sustained attention, and information-processing speed.

Publication Date: 21 Feb 2017

Focus: Enhancement in Memory and Cognitive Functions

Study Subjects: 50 adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)

Dosage: Ashwagandha-root extract (300 mg twice daily) for eight weeks

Results/Findings: Ashwagandha may be effective in enhancing both immediate and general memory in people with MCI as well as improving executive function, attention, and information processing speed.
