Is Magnesium Glycinate Chelated?

If you’ve been looking into dietary supplements, you’ve probably seen the word, ‘chelated’, thrown around or on packaging.

What is chelated magnesium?

Chelated simply means combined, meaning the mineral is combined with another compound, usually to help it absorb into our bodies easier and faster. They act like carriers, moving the magnesium and protecting it from being broken down before entering your bloodstream.

In terms of magnesium, there are many forms of magnesium chelate, such as magnesium citrate, magnesium oxide and magnesium taurate, along with magnesium glycinate.

Magnesium glycinate is combined with the amino acid glycine. This form has been found to have fantastic bioavailability, or absorbability, into the gut, so you absorb more of the magnesium than if you took other forms.
