Paper #01 - Effects of pomegranate juice on blood pressure: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Paper #03 - Pomegranate Extract Improves Maximal Performance of Trained Cyclists after an Exhausting Endurance Trial: A Randomised Controlled Trial

Summary: This study investigates the impact of pomegranate extract (PE) on the performance and post-exercise recovery of trained cyclists, particularly focusing on endurance and maximal effort.

However, it did not have a significant impact on force restoration in damaged muscles. Paper #04 - Pomegranate ellagitannins stimulate growth of gut bacteria in vitro: Implications for prebiotic and metabolic effects

Study Subjects: 25 Finnish top-level cross-country skiers

Dosage: Coenzyme Q10 supplementation at a daily dose of 90 mg

Results/Findings: CoQ10 supplements improved athletes' physical performance, including their endurance (AET), anaerobic capacity (ANT), and maximum oxygen consumption (VO2Max). Additionally, 94% of athletes felt that CoQ10 helped them perform better and recover faster, compared to only 33% when they took a placebo. This suggests that CoQ10 may be beneficial for athletic performance and recovery.

Results/Findings: For patients with heart failure (HF), lower CoQ10 levels are linked to more severe symptoms like fatigue, reduced exercise capacity, and difficulty breathing. In a study of HF patients, those with higher CoQ10 levels had milder symptoms (NYHA class I and II), while patients with worse symptoms (NYHA class III and IV) had lower CoQ10 levels. Taking CoQ10 supplements effectively restored CoQ10 levels in both the heart muscle and blood.
