Fisetin and its potential for Longevity and Cognitive Health

Fisetin and its potential for Longevity and Cognitive Health

What is Fisetin and what are its benefits?

Fisetin is a natural flavonoid, a substance that gives fruits and vegetables their bright colours. Fisetin foods include strawberries, apples, grapes, onions and cucumbers.

Fisetin has been found to extend the lifespan of various organisms, reduce the amount of senescent cells and can improve cognition and memory. Senescent cells are cells that have become damaged, but rather than dying off like cells normally do, they linger in the body, becoming zombie cells that increase during aging, damaging healthy cells and stem cells — cells that create new cells.

This means fisetin supplements are both nootropics and longevity supplements.

Other ways fisetin helps with antiaging is that it prevents the mTOR pathway, which is known to accelerate aging. A fisetin supplement can also reduce oxidative stress and inflammaging, and has anti-aging effect on the skin. It may also help prevent cancer by blocking the receptors for testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on cancer cells.

In terms of fisetin vs quercetin, fisetin seems to be better in killing senescent cells and it’s the most potent and safest of natural senolytics.

Fisetin comes as a supplement, such as in a capsule or as fisetin powder, and while the ideal dosage hasn’t yet been determined, it’s safe at 100mg per day. There are some suggestions this can be as high as 500mg per day.

There are currently no known side effects of fisetin supplements but talk with your doctor before taking any to see which is the best fisetin supplement for you.
