What is NMN?

NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) is a Vitamin B3 derivative. It is also a direct precursor of NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide), which is integral for cellular energy production in our bodies.

We use HPMC capsules (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose or hypromellose). HPMC capsules are made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a non-animal-derived polymer. This makes them suitable for vegetarians, vegans, and individuals with dietary restrictions related to animal products. HPMC capsules have a controlled dissolution profile, which can be beneficial for timed or delayed release of active ingredients.

First, while NAD supplements might seem promising, the large molecular size of NAD makes it difficult for the human body to absorb efficiently. This inefficiency means that taking NAD directly may not provide the desired boost in NAD+ levels. In contrast, NMN is much smaller and can be readily absorbed by the body, where it is quickly converted into NAD+, ensuring better efficacy. Moreover, NAD supplements require stringent storage conditions to maintain their potency. Specifically, NAD needs to be stored at temperatures between -15°C and -25°C for long-term stability. Without these conditions, NAD easily degrades into NAM and ADP-ribose, compromising its effectiveness. Unfortunately, most supplement brands do not offer the necessary temperature-controlled storage. On the other hand, NMN is much more stable at room temperature, with a shelf life of up to two years, making it a more reliable choice for consumers.

When comparing NMN to NR (Nicotinamide Riboside), NMN also has clear advantages. NMN is a direct precursor to NAD+, meaning it converts into NAD+ in a single step. NR, however, first needs to be converted into NMN before it can be transformed into NAD+, adding an extra step to the process. This potentially makes NMN more efficient in boosting NAD+ levels in the body. Additionally, NMN's stability is another key advantage over NR. While NMN can be stored at room temperature for extended periods, NR requires refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C to remain effective. Like NAD, NR's efficacy could be compromised if not stored under these precise conditions, which many brands do not provide.
